About Susan
“Your loan is approved!” Susan Fogel says these are four of her favorite words, and she never gets tired of saying them.
Susan’s first position in mortgage lending was with Home Savings of America, where she learned the importance of consumer counseling and education about the loan process. After helping a Cambodian refugee family get approved for a loan to buy a very modest home, she realized that her work could make a difference in people’s lives and put them on a road to stability. “I felt then and still believe that being a mortgage loan officer is a calling,” Susan says. “By using the bank’s money, we can make a difference in the lives of deserving people.”
Now, over 30 years later, Susan is putting her empathy, devotion to service and experience to helping seniors have a retirement of dignity and peace of mind. Susan is now exclusively working with reverse mortgages.
After leaving Home Savings, Susan was a wholesale representative for Mortgage Loans America. She trained and made group presentations to retail loan officers throughout Northern California, but her real calling was working directly with buyers. As the owner of her own company, Susan developed homebuyer workshops – including one strictly for women – and offered them monthly. She wrote a real estate column for METRO and was a founding member of the Virtual Real Estate Q&A (both online and in print) for the San Jose Mercury News. Susan also appeared in a monthly segment about mortgages on San Francisco’s Bay/TV. Embracing the internet early, Susan founded PaperlessLoan.com, which she sold in 2000, retiring to Mexico.
“Retirement” didn’t last long. Susan became the Resort Office Manager for ConfiCasa Mortgage International, managing 13 resort offices in Mexico. She wrote real estate articles for several English-language newspapers in Southern Baja, and also developed a webinar and coaching program for people seeking to move to Mexico.
Susan now lives on Florida’s Nature Coast, where she looks forward to helping you achieve the joy of home ownership.
Susan holds a B.S. from the University of San Francisco.
